Facebook Launches Hey, A Disruptive Simple App
Only 2 days after launching Slingshot, Facebook announced a brand-new mobile app: Hey. According to inner sources, Hey was designed and coded overnight by Mr. Zuckerberg himself. It’s dead simple: click on a friend’s name and he instantly receives a notification saying “Hey” from you. Hey. That’s all.
The Silicon Valley tech scene welcomed the new product with both enthusiasm and puzzlement. “So simple! 2 taps only, why didn’t we think about this before?” claimed Jonathan, a Facebook employee who was previously working on the Graph Search. However, some people apparently don’t see the immediate need for such product: “Do I really need an app for that? Nope, I’ll definitely stick to emails to send “Hey” to friends.” And others questioned its informality: “What if I want to simply say “Hello” to my boss? “Hey” would get me into trouble…”.
There’s probably some room for additional features indeed, but there’s no doubt that Facebook’s disruptive mindset will still impress us for many years to come.
